Things Remembered from Winter
scum-filled water
stills to ice
and winter's coat slips on
his white gloves
glint on twigs and reeds
and on the frosty lawn
snow in the face!
the landing sends
limbs flailing through the air
where snowsuits land
in soggy heap
and laughter does prevail
stars seen
through misty breath,
and furry hoods nudged back
ice skates clacking
sliding, spinning -
slip! I'm on my back
trampolines
sagging with snow
and boots and laughs and squeaks
the wind must miss the roses
'cause
it paints them on our cheeks!
frozen stars
on snowy lawn,
a thousand blue-white sparks,
set ablaze
the hollow night
too silent for remarks
cold, pearly drifts
requesting hugs
allure a child's embrace
soft drifts of white!
what wakens one
like snow upon the face!
like caterpillars
drawn from deep
cocoons of summer heat,
winter wakens
sleepy things
to startled laughter sweet!
