For the New Year
I make a promise to myself,
A little whisper to a flower in the twilight:
When morning comes, I shall TAKE IT.
Glowing, burning, effervescent.
And when it dims to shady moonlight,
I shall take that too.
I’d like it all, please.
The company and the loneliness.
The bonfires and the snow fights.
The spontaneous and the peaceful.
The hustle and the boredom.
The ocean and the pine trees.
The running and the resting.
The salads and the chocolate.
The teaching and the studying.
I’m not going to pick a favorite.
I’m going to embrace life at a freefall,
Diving off the cliffs of inhibition,
Rushing as fast as gravity can pull me
Into joy.
