Winter Harsh
O land! What hast they done to you?
The winter's minions harsh
Have ravaged you and cast their flakes
Upon my little marsh.
O sacrilege! I'm trodding on
The leaves that clapped for me.
Ravaged, naked, bare, and cold,
The once so dainty tree!
The forest dead, it's glory fallen,
Crumpled to the earth.
Oh mean! the wind that stripped the world
And trampled nature's mirth.
Even heaven's tears have froze,
Held hostage on the ground.
The heartsick eye of heaven stares,
In horror, wide and round.
A landscape varied as the streaks
Of a sunset bright,
Is buried now beneath the dull
Monotony of white!
The winter's minions harsh
Have ravaged you and cast their flakes
Upon my little marsh.
O sacrilege! I'm trodding on
The leaves that clapped for me.
Ravaged, naked, bare, and cold,
The once so dainty tree!
The forest dead, it's glory fallen,
Crumpled to the earth.
Oh mean! the wind that stripped the world
And trampled nature's mirth.
Even heaven's tears have froze,
Held hostage on the ground.
The heartsick eye of heaven stares,
In horror, wide and round.
A landscape varied as the streaks
Of a sunset bright,
Is buried now beneath the dull
Monotony of white!
