Things Remembered from Summer
white spikes of pollen
drifting toward
an unrelenting sky
roses remembered
blooming.
such perfume from one so shy!
a net – swish –
through water drawn
pond creatures near to bring
and sun upon the golden hair
of children
on their swing
the birch
applauding victory
after long pages read
the maple
singing symphony
when wind his branches spreads
hot shingles
on an old shed roof
toasty on my back
the sun warming my face
as I
cannot but smile back
slides too hot to slide upon
careening down
on both my feet!
sand, inside my shoes....
how sneaky
how petite!
mud, soft and gooey
– squish –
I'm stuck within its grasp
trees! what lookout
you provide
while basking in your clasp!
jellybeans
like every color
of the fading noon
grasp at summer
while you can
fall will be here soon!
