Dual Natures
Like clinging mist to jagged edges
Of a cliffside's highest ledges
Gentling the view:
So my mystery surrounding
All that keeps my red heart pounding
Blunts my edges too.
Quiet once, then sharp and whistful,
Sad, intelligent, forgetful,
Hard to fully see.
I try hard not to be confusing,
Always weighing, always choosing,
Who it's best to be.
You thought you knew what you'd receive,
When making friends; I'm scared you'll leave
If you see all I keep
Hid within uncharted mines,
Tangled up with roots and vines,
Heartaches buried deep.
To some, I'm funny, some, I'm strict,
To some, a mess, to some, perfect.
I'm all of the above.
But mostly I'm a sea of questions,
Hope and fears and brave suggestions,
Longing for your love.
